More Than a Filming Location
This is not a modern bedroom decorated with a few retro objects. It is a complete storytelling environment originally created for Red Light Busking’s heritage exhibition, Kanda Vol.1: Bedroom Shut, Music Up.
The set recreates the bedroom shared by two Black British Caribbean brothers growing up in London during the early 2000s—the younger brother has recently completed his GCSEs, while the older brother is in prison. Its furniture, clothing, music technology, CDs, posters and personal objects evoke an era shaped by grime, UK garage, jungle, R&B, bashment, pirate radio and Channel U.
Developed through research and oral histories, the bedroom explores much more than nostalgia. It tells stories about music, education, identity, exclusion, resilience, family relationships and growing up in London at the beginning of a new century.
Whether you are recreating the period or looking for a visually distinctive setting, the bedroom gives your production an atmosphere and cultural authenticity that would be difficult to achieve in a conventional studio.
