About the event
Red Light Busking Presents: Kanda Vol.1 – Bedroom Shut, Music Up
An immersive, music-heavy exhibition exploring why music like grime was created and whether it was a reaction to, or a reflection of, life caught up in the criminal justice system, and what wider forces in society were at play.
Step into a teenage bedroom in early 2000s Waltham Forest. Posters on the walls. CDs and mixtapes of RnB, Bashment, Rap, and Grime scattered across the bed. Channel U flickering on the screen. Two brothers; one in school, the other behind bars. Same story, different chapters.
"Bedroom Shut, Music Up" isn’t just an exhibition it’s a time capsule. A deep dive into the sounds of a generation whose parents came from faraway places in the Caribbean and Africa.
